Murphy-Wall State Bank Announces 2024 Scholarship Awards

PCHS Students, Makenna Knwell, Caleb Russell, Clare Loos, Murphy-Wall Marketing director Trey Bourque

Every year, Murphy-Wall State Bank & Trust Company offers three scholarships to graduating Pinckneyville Community High School Seniors. These awards are the STRIVE Award, Student of the Year, and the President’s Scholar.

STRIVE, which stands for “striving to reach independence via education”, is a $1,000 scholarship presented to a student who applied through the RLC Foundation and will be attending classes in a professional field in the Fall.
The recipient of the 5th annual STRIVE Award is MaKenna Kewell.

The 29th annual Murphy-Wall Student of the Year Scholarship and the 2nd annual Murphy-Wall State Bank President’s Scholarship are each $1,000 awards.

Students must be selected as one of twelve Students of the Month in order to be considered for these two honors. Seniors applied for the honor of Student of the Month by submitting an essay answering questions regarding their educational plans after graduation, how they intend to pay for higher education, significant activities during their high school career, why they feel qualified to receive this honor, and community service involvement.

The Student of the Year is chosen based on individual points scored in pre-determined categories after completing an interview with various officers of the bank.
The recipient of the 29th annual Student of the Year Award is Caleb Russell.

The recipient of the Murphy-Wall State Bank President’s Scholarship is awarded to a student who demonstrated excellent academic performance and strong sense of community values.
The recipient of the 2nd annual President’s Scholar Award is Clare Loos.
